One Last great minate with Jennifer Ballard
This was a last minute job, and I'm so glad I took it.
Jennifer Ballard was such an amazing bride inside and out. She was so much fun! I loved that she chose to go outside the box and chose to do peacock themed makeup! She was so beautiful.
Not only was Jennifer amazing I finally got to work with TATE TULLIER!!! :)))

Erica Livi
What can't I say about Erica Livi?
This is one awesome chick! Erica Livi is a model from Italy. She is beautiful inside and out. She has a great personality and such a big heart! Although, she is allergic to apples and can't play scrabble in English I still love her!
I had a great experience working with her and M.Prophet. Max let me experiment with a more dramatic eye look and Erica (who had never worn makeup) let me go do what ever I wanted. What a great sport!
Way to go team!
Amelie Magazine--La Vie de la Nouvelle-Orleans
Many people visit New Orleans and say that this is one of the most “European” cities in the States. This comment is very true, since this city is a former French colony and the majority of its architecture is both French and Spanish. The way of life here is similar to Paris in many ways, wi...th the rich cuisine, art, and music, and now emerging fashion scene. Our inhabitants here find fulfillment in many things, and similar to the French, in the small everyday happiness that comes our way like enjoying a cup of coffee and pastry for breakfast, sipping a glass of wine (or cocktail) at a cafe while people-watching, enjoying live music, or dancing at a supper club.
Here is our bit of Parisian Life in New Orleans, we like to call La Vie de la Nouvelle-Orleans
This was defiantly an experience. I had a chance to work with some great people and experience different types of working environments.
The models Cecilia McManus and Krista Simoneaux really did a great job of portraying southern living.
Habiba did an amazing job on hair and Kaylynn was amazing at directing and pulling off this shoot!
Way to go Team, Thanks again Amelie G
I had an interview with Amelie G Magazine March 2010
When I received an email from Edmund Kee from Amelie G Magazine, I was floored that they wanted to interview me. I am so thankful to be a part of Amelie G Magazine.
The interview is below:

LKMAKEUPYOURMIND
By Edmund Kee
Art can be inspired by millions of elements in existence. It can be tasted, seen, heard, felt and worn. The “wear-art” is the heartbeat of Amelie G, but often times are focused mainly on the garment that prestigiously clothe the human body. This month’s Art section features a talented and uprising Artist who adds another category to the list of “wear-art”. Lauren Kattan is the founder and lead artist of LKMakeupyourmind.com. Her work truly inspires me. She has been in the Makeup industry for almost 3 years now. However, she has been an artist her entire life. Among many impressive projects that are featured below, her resume also includes working for MAC Cosmetics and currently with Sephora. I had the pleasure of interviewing her just to capture a glimpse of her passion in this industry:
AG: Any interesting story behind your mom naming you Lauren?
LK: Until today my mom always told me that I was either going to be a Lauren or a Kelly. I am so glad I am not a Kelly. I called her this evening and found out the real reason I was named Lauren. My mother said she always thought the name was pretty and that she always admired and actress Lauren Becall.
AG: Where were you born and raise?
LK: I was born in Gentilly-New Orleans area and raised in Bridge City on the Westbank, the suburbs of New Orleans
AG: What inspired you and your passion towards makeup?
LK: It was the First day of my junior year of high school. I was on my way to class. I was so excited; I had just been named Vice President of NAHS(National Art Honor Society). Although I was excited, Vice president also comes with the responsibility of ART 4. An all Senior Class.
I walked into class; my best friend Jen saved me a seat at a table with two other girls. One of the girl’s name was Crystal. She had these big, beautiful, blue eyes. The other girl was a rebel. Her name was Kristy. She has makeup spread out all over the table. There were neon eye shadows of all different shades and textures. As I sat down, Kristy leaned over the table got right in my face and said “Why are you sitting here, no one wants to sit by you”
Needless to say I spent the rest of the class in the restroom. The next few classes were the same. Kristy would do her makeup and give me the stink eye the whole period. One day, I ran into her in the hall way. Courage overcame me and I confronted her. Surprisingly, she apologized and explained to me that she was trying to get a job at a makeup company. From that day I became Kristy’s guinea pig. I would watch her do my eyes with a hand mirror.
After several years, Kristy and I went our separate ways. Makeup became my passion. My senior year I decided I wanted to follow in Kristy’s footsteps. I got the Job at the same company as Kristy. That upstarted my journey as a makeup artist. As my journey continues I find myself saying “There’s no shortcuts in anyplace worth going”. I plan on trying out for my dream job this summer. Sephora’s Pro Beauty team, which is an international team of 14 artists that travel and do celebrity makeup/fashion shows/film festivals/etc.
AG: Who are some of the people that make your inner creativeness jump up and down?
LK: I get really excited when I watch Dany Sanz. She is the creator of Makeup Forever Professional Cosmetics. She is amazing. I also get inspired when I’m around my photographer friends. I live with two of them Jen Leblanc photography and M.Prophet. Kaylynn Marie Photography and Erica Perry really inspire me as well. All four of them are full of talent. They all inspire me in different ways. When Kaylynn and I collaborate we really push the limits we try the most insane stunts. Erica Perry really pulls the high fashion artistry out of me. M.Prophet (MAX) pushes me with really edgy makeup such as special Fx, which is not my strong point. He has challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and into my learning zone. Jen really leads me into pulling the emotion and inner beauty out of people. I have learned so much from these fellow artists.
AG: In the makeup industry, what would you say is your strength? Weakness?
LK: I have many strengths in this industry. I have a background in artistry. My mother is an amazing painter. I also can do many different types of makeup including wedding and bridal, glam, editorial, special FX, High fashion, and body painting. My biggest challenge is taking criticism. The reason is not that I don’t value what the person has to say; truly I enjoy feedback and I understand that honest feedback (both positive and negative) is the only way to continuously improve. However, being a person that takes a great deal of pride in her work, often my first response is defensive, rather than appreciative. This is something I am aware of, and am working on conquering as I know it will make me a better artist and person in the future.
AG: What are some of the toughest challenges being young in this highly competitive industry?
LK: The biggest challenge I would say is lack of funds. I work so much to pay my bills it’s hard to do the kind of makeup jobs I want to do. I feel like living in Louisiana can have a little bit to do with it as well. Louisiana’s industry is growing. Just not fast enough for me. “The hardest people to convince that you’re a professional are your friends and family.” –Jen Leblanc
AG: If resources (ie: $$) weren’t an issue, what would you like to do with your passion in makeup?
LK: Go find out where Dany Sanz lives. Knock on her front door, show her my portfolio and pick her brain. Then beg her to let me be her main artist.
AG: What would be your dream project?
LK: Doing makeup for a fashion show I designed and the show to be huge!! Like in New York Fashion Week.
AG: Well Ms. Kattan, it was a pleasure talking to you. Keep the creativeness going, there’s a place in this industry for artists like yourself. Amelie G’s hope is to bring artists like you from all over and put New Orleans in the map of the Fashion Industry. Thank you for spending this time with us.
Please visit www.LKMakeupyourmind.com for your next project needing a talented and passionate MUA.
Laura Aust
Laura Aust is a model from Biloxi, MS. I had the honor to work with her and Jen Leblanc for a Zombie Shoot. She was incredible. She really brought out the emotion in every picture. She was a natural and I loved working with her!
We had a great team, Jen is always amazing, Habiba rocked out some serious zombie hair and Laura was great! Enjoy!
March 2010
One random night Kaylynn, Jen, Max and I got together to do a photo shoot so I could practice makeup techniques and so they could teach and share tricks for lighting etc.
I'm so glad I did. The picture came out beautifully. Jen looks flawless and I truly love these shots. Jen looks so compelling and mysterious. I love it!
Great job Team!

Pro's:
- Great Pigment

Con's:
-Each shadow is $18, what they dont tell you is, all your getting is the pan of shadow.. not a container

Over all good product
Makeup Forever Aqua Cream
This is my opinion of these products.
Makeup Forever Aqua Cream:
Makeup Forever Aqua Cream Description:
An ultra-pigmented, long-lasting waterproof eye cream. Aqua Cream combines the highest-quality pigments with mother of pearl particles to give immediate rich color payoff with a luminous finish in just one application. It's long-lasting formulation will not crease or smudge under the most extreme conditions and its creamy and elastic texture allows for easy blending.Available in shades ranging from soft neutrals to pure bright tones, you can find the perfect color for any purpose
My Description:
I got to play with these for the first time this morning. I had a few clients act as my Ginnie pigs today to let me try them out. These things so far, are awesome.
Completely water-proof. You don't need a primer to wear them. In fact you can use your finger to apply them its almost easier then a brush! Really high pigmented. A little goes a really long way. Honestly, one pot of this stuff can last someone id say 2 years if you wore it everyday! Retails at only $22
Now, they claim to be able to use them on cheeks and lips as well... I of course tried this today..
Cheeks works great as a stain and beautiful color.
Lips..NOT so much. the product got crusty very quickly even when i put lip gloss on top. It actually created the "mac lipstick line" as i call it on the inner rim of your lips..
All in all the product is worth it and I cant wait to play some more!!
please let me know you experiences with this product!
DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge rescue & protect eye balm $48 Vs.
These reviews are based on my opinion of these products only.
DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge rescue & protect eye balm Description:
Wrinkle Revenge rescue & protect eye balm contains the most active generation of amino acid peptides, along with potent antioxidants white tea, pomegranate and grape seed extracts, as well as components to restore the ceramide barrier lost as skin ages. Hydration is restored without oiliness, inflammation is visibly decreased and dark circles fade. Elasticity is heightened and tone is reestablished.
When you cut yourself, collagen fibers are broken within the dermis. The end portion of the injured collagen fiber is composed of a chain of very specific amino acid peptides which send a chemical message to fibroblasts (collagen producing cells), making them return to repair the wound. This is called chemotaxis.
These amino acid peptides are of the same end fragment that send out the distress signal to fibroblasts, chemically signaling skin to become firmer.
Collagen destruction takes place as we age; 1% of skin's collagen is lost each year after the age of 40. At 20, you maintain skin firmness, keeping fibroblasts in place and producing lots of skin firming collagen. At 45, not only are critical collagen levels lost, but the fibroblasts that are still present simply do not work as well as they used to.
Wrinkle Revenge employs a sophisticated complex of ingredients to visibly improve the appearance of puffiness and dark circles along with addressing skin firmness & diminishing fine lines:
Amino Acid Peptide Complex - Blend of the newest generation of amino acid peptides, powerful antioxidants and hydrating agents
Caffeine - Rapidly shrinks bags due to fluid build-up
Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone - Reduces leakiness of blood vessels without the irritation often associated with Vitamin K when used near eyes
White tea - Potent antioxidant to calm and soothe the skin
Saccharomyces Lysate (Tissue Respiratory Factor) - Powerful depuffing agent
Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10) - Antioxidant
Dermatologist Tested & Approved : Ophthalmologist Tested & Approved : Non Comedogenic : Non Irritating : Allergy Tested : Fragrance Free : Dye Free : No Animal Testing
My Description:
This is an excellent Eye cream. Not only does it treat all under eye concerns such as puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, and dark circles, it also only retails for $48 bucks. Which is amazing. Let me explain why.
This is one of the few eye creams that can be used not only under the eye but also on the lid. News flash people that's awesome. Most eye creams can only be used under the eyes!
So here is the real Kicker...
In the first 5 ingredients there is a peptide. What is a peptide? A peptide is going to promote cell turnover which means younger healthier looking skin, Quicker! For those of you who don't understand why it matters if the Peptide is in the first 5 ingredients. Let me explain, the way ingredients are displayed are from their strength in the product. So the last ingredient in the product may mean there is very little of that ingredient actually used.
For Example: In Dr.Perricone's Eye cream Peptides are not listed until one of the LAST 5 ingredients....
Perricone retails for $95 and claims to do the same thing...
Perricone MD High Potency Eye Lift Description:
A fast absorbing intensive eye treatment that helps repair the advanced signs of aging that appear around the delicate eye area, making us look older than we are. High Potency Eye Lift actually lifts skin for a visibly transformed appearance while minimizing deep lines, wrinkles and bags under eyes with Dr. Perricone's patented anti-aging ingredients: DMAE and Phospholipids. Also formulated with Pycnogenol to address loss of elasticity and help brighten skin's appearance. Paraben-free.
My Description:
Perricone is a great eye cream. It does contain DMAE which is an excellent source (from Salmon) that will pack antioxidants and vitamins into your skin. Perricone is a great eye cream and it does brighten, lighten and tighten. This eye cream can only be used under the eyes.
All in All I would rather spend $48 bucks on an eyes cream where I know I will see results and be able to use on my lid as well then $95 on an eye cream that smells like Salmon.... Again that's just me!
Nicka K Cosmetics high definition eye shadow
Nicka K High definition eye shadow is awesome!
The pigment is great,its HD, and it's only $2.00! That's right $2.00!
A co-worker introduced me to this shadow. It amazing. I asked her to pick me up one next time she goes to the beauty supply store.
For those Louisiana gals out there you can find these shadows at the Beauty supply store off of Florida Blvd.
Otherwise they are very hard to find.
Eyebrows
This is my opinion of these products.
*Eye brows should be the medium highlight of your hair color. You SHOULD NOT (In my opinion) Use the same pencil for eyeliner, lipliner, or brows. EVER...*
Top Favorites:
MAC EyeBrows:
Self-propelling, self-sharpening, brow defining. Confidently adds what you need: shape, colour, density in one streamlined tool. Like a pen, creates its own just-right point. Provides definition, shape, deepens/fills in colour. Creates striking arches. Easy to tote around. No sharpener needed
My Description:
These are amazing. They are retractable, very small tip to use in small areas, very creamy, long wearing, and easy to use. This is one product I cannot live without.
Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows:
Convenient pencil creates perfectly defined, natural-looking brows. Ultra-fine tip fills even the smallest gaps with precise, hair-like strokes. Automatically self-sharpens; glides on without skipping or tugging. Color lasts all day.
My Description: This is the same thing as MAC but and $2 cheaper. However the colors aren't as on point as MAC's
EmphasEYES™ For Brows High Definition Eyebrow Pencil :
EmphasEYES your brows with this high-definition, waterproof pencil. A follow-up to the best-selling EmphasEYES™ High Definition Eye Pencil, EmphasEYES™ For Brows High Definition Eyebrow Pencil is a super-slim, waterproof brow pencil that glides on smoothly and will last all day thanks to a patented plant-wax system infused with natural botanicals, aloe, vitamins A and E, and mineral pigments. Unlike thick wooden pencils that tug and look unnatural, EmphasEYES™ For Brows is four times smaller, so it perfectly mimics actual brow hair for a more natural effect. This dual-ended pencil also features a precision brush to help groom and tame unruly hairs into place.
My Description:
The Great thing about this pencil is its two shades are very universal. It also is ALL NATURAL and waterproof. AND it has a mini brow brush on the other end.
It is $17 However, its convenient and worth it. A great option for people with sensitive skin.
Ode to Mascaras
This is my opinion on these products.
I have a serious obsession with Mascaras...
Top Favorites:
Makeup Forever Smokey Lash:
A mascara that gives the lashes curl, volume, length, and intense pigment.
This ultra-pigmented mascara was specially designed to give the lashes an exceptional volume-enhancing effect with infinite lengthening and immediate curling.
My Description:
This Mascara is awesome. You can layer it over already dried mascara and build and build and build! Smokey Lash is ultra high pigment black, so unlike some other mascaras that can dry to that Grey black, this one remains black and beautiful! The Smokey lash brush has dense bristles to really push through the lashes to Volumize at the root of the lash to create the appearance of false lashes. I love it!
DiorShow:
A cult-followed mascara that leaves lashes ultra thick, long, and curled.DiorShow Mascara is Dior's original, must-have mascara that delivers ultra-glam, catwalk-length lashes. Makeup artists all over the world use this product to create the longest, thickest, curviest lashes ever.
My Description:
DiorShow is an incredible mascara. You can build continues layers with NO clumping. And it smells really good! The DiorShow brush was inspired by a tooth brush. Christian Dior was backstage at a fashion show and he was frustrated because he couldn't get enough mascara onto the models lashes so he sliced open the tube of mascara and took a toothbrush to the models lashes. And there came the inspiration for DIOR Shows mascara wand.
Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara :
A multi-effect volume mascara that is formulated with hard waxes and synthetic polymers.
Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara thickens and curls lashes with one stroke! The formula contains hard waxes to build lashes and synthetic polymers to give them body and volume. The rich and creamy formula conditions lashes and an elastic veil helps mascara adhere to lashes without clumping.
My Description:
I discovered this mascara on accident. It is one of the mascaras that no one ever talks about. However, I LOVE IT. I call this the Mascara for the women on the go. It take very few coats to achieve that volumeous ,thick, and long desired look.
Notice in the "Anastasia description" is mentions the mascara has synthetic polymers. What is a Synthetic Polymer you may ask?
Its simple, think of it like elastic. It helps stretch your lashes to look longer!
Self Tanner
Ode to Self Tanners! My opinion...
St. Tropez:
St. Tropez Description:
A superfine self tan spray that gives your skin color at every angle for an ultra-even, long-lasting tan. Infused with conditioning aloe vera and long-lasting color, you'll have a perfectly natural looking tan in an instant. With 360° spray technology. Our innovative Aromaguard™ fragrance technology eliminates the tell-tale self tan aroma by a minimum of 70%.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan
My Description:
This stuff is awesome. Not only has it been around for ages it works and doesn't smell bad! It actually used to be sold in Walgreen's and used to be considered an "off -brand" tanner. This stuff is great though and you don't look like an Umpa Lumpa after using!
You will see an immediate bronzing affect but it develops more over night and lasts for days.
Sephora Collection SUN:
Sephora Collection SUN Description:
Body Self-Tanning Tinted Bronzing Mist.Gradually gives skin a natural-looking tan, for a healthy glow throughout the year. The tinted formula and mist dispenser make it easy to see exactly where you are applying the tanner, to ensure a beautiful bronze result with no smoothing or blending necessary. And the best part? The ultra light formula is scented with tropical notes of fresh mango and Monoi flower.
My Description:
This stuff is great and its only $12 bucks. The smell isn't terrible and it lasts for days! The only down fall is its not sold in Sephora stores anymore only online. I highly recommend getting some before its gone!
Makeup Forever Mat Velvet Foundation
This Review Is based on my opinion on this product.
Makeup Forever description:
A shine controlling, oil-free, water-resistant, complete coverage liquid foundation. Hides imperfections, evens out skin tone, and mattifies with a non-oily, perfectly powdered finish. The result is flawless and lasts for hours.
My Description:
This foundation is a full coverage, oil-free, powdery, MAT finish.
This is a good foundation. I favor HD more than this one. Although, this is a full coverage Foundation it is adjustable. A little bit goes a long way.
And to be honest, Although, this considered more coverage than the HD foundation I feel the HD is more Opaque and covers more. That's just my opinion.
I also find in the lower shade range the shades are very pink, so if you have a lot of yellow in your skin like myself and 80% of women then this is probably not for you. However, that is only in the lower shades. The deeper shades are very nice in shade variety.
I still prefer HD. hehe
MAC Studio Fix Fluid
This Review is based on my opinion Only.

My Description:
I have been wearing this foundation for almost 4 years. I switch back and fourth because I am a makeup artist...
Pros: The foundation covers incredibly well, has a very nice opaque look, spf15, lightweight, and a wide range of colors. Long Wearing and photographs beautifully.
Cons: Has a tendency to break people out and clog pores. Although, I feel its light weight some disagree.
Clinque Moisture Surge Product Review
This review is based on my opinion of the product.
Clinuque's Description:

Makeup Forever- HD Invisible Cover Foundation
This Review is based on my opinion of the product.
Makeup Forever description:
An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life.
This foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting.
My Description:
This foundation is incredible. The description above is very accurate. It is Med/full coverage, lasts all day, Very opaque and flawless looking.HD foundation has a natural finish so it mimics the texture of the skin to look natural and flawless. I tell people it makes you look like you walked out of photo-shop on camera and off. The color range is very versatile. Makeup Forever provides 25 shades.
**Something you should Know **
Although, there are 25 shades, they are not made in order of lighted to darkest. They are made in the order that Dany Sanz ( the Creator) made them.
What I mean is, If you are wearing shade 125 and you feel that you have gotten a tan you are not necessarily going to jump to shade 127. Shade 123 is actually darker than 125 and 127.
So be smart and have a someone properly match you.
The only downfall to this foundation is that it does not have SPF in it. Which is not a concern of mine but it is for some.

Beauty? Feb/2010
"Beauty is not caused. It is." -Emily Dickinson
This shoot was very spur of the moment. We had gotten these shots right after another photo shoot for something else.
I remember none of us were tired and I looked over at Jen and said "Can I try something?"
I had always wanted to get this shot. I have had it in my head for a while. Max and Jen made it happen for me!
I actually did it to myself a few years ago..with my lame Sony Cyber shot ... I'll share that one as well.
Cirque De Looziana -October 2009
I am Back tracking a little bit but I wanted to blog about my experience. I went to the coolest party Ever in October.
Jen and Max invited me to a Halloween/Birthday Party. Little did I know that the birthday boy was Tate Tullier A super cool photographer! Who I actually just got to work with this past weekend! :^D
The Party was themed "Circus Freak" I spent a week preparing my costume as bird women!
Jen and max went as Mimes and my man Corey went as one of the many bearded ladies!
I met some of the coolest people at this party and I got so much inspiration from the costumes!!
I have to say I spent most of my time in Tate's kitchen... the food was good!!!
I just wanted to share the pictures.

Challenge
As most of you know I live with the two best roommates in the World Jen-a-Max. As I have previously mentioned they are both extraordinary photographers with a really creative eye.
Again as you most know I am trying out for Sephoras Pro Beauty Team at some point this year...
I told Jen-A-Max I needed a Challenge.
I told them when I come home from work to give me a concept or a restriction of only using certain products to challenge my artistry and creativity.
Well Jen threw me through a loop when I got home and said alright you concept is "Bubbles"
I went all over the house looking for props... all i could find was bubble wrap... that DID NOT work out....
So I decided to think okay when I think of a bubble what do I see:
Bubble:
Transparent
Iridescent
Voluptuous
plump
Clean---> = Blue.
So I decided to construct a pair of lashes made with blue and black chunks (they were awesome!)
As for eyeshadow I used a very clean shimmery look with a orange for the crease color to compliment the blue.
For Complexion I made her skin EXTREMELY dewy and Iridescent.
And the Lips I over drew with her cupids bow rounded instead of pointy with the innocence of a hot pink lip!
The look was simple and exciting. I feel I executed this look as best as I could with out being tacky....
